For the family-friendly feel-good type, there’s Big Miracle. This follows the story of three whales that become trapped under ice in Alaska and the rescue behind it. The kids will enjoy it because of the story of the whales and their rescue (all of which is based on a true story). The parents will enjoy the romantic aspect of the film, the story of a couple brought together while trying to save the whales. The film stars Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. It’s rated PG.
If you’re looking for a good old fashion scare, then The Woman In Black is just what you need. This chilling tale, based on a novel by the same name, tells the story of a widowed solicitor and father who is sent to settle the accounts of an old lady in a vastly creepy and supernatural house. Just like a British horror flick, the film will keep you on the edge of with spooky scenes and thrilling appearences. The film stars Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe, Liz White and Janet McTeer. It’s rated PG-13.
Also coming from across the pond is Coriolanus, a modern-day interpretation of the Shakespearean play. The story tells the story of a Roman ex-pat who after being a hero is kicked out of the city for starting a riot. He then returns to act out his revenge to his enemy. The film starts Ralph Fiennes under his own direction, Gerard Butler, Vanessa Redgrave and Jessica Chastain. The film is rated R.
Also opening this weekend: Chronicle (rated PG-13), biopic Carol Channing: Larger Than Life (PG), and horror flick The Innkeepers (R).
